“Before discovering Brooke at Sawtooth Myofunctional Therapy, I struggled with poor sleep and low energy—my Ora Ring sleep scores hovered around 70%. After starting therapy, my sleep quality and daytime energy improved dramatically, and as a bonus I noticed a more defined facial structure. My Ora Ring sleep scores now hover around 90%.”

“If you’re looking for a natural, effective way to boost your sleep and well-being, this therapy is a great direction to go.” – John L

I have suffered from sleep apnea for many years, my diagnosis of severe obstructive sleep apnea was about 15 years ago. Treatment began with a CPAP machine.  For me this was terrible, making it very difficult to sleep even though my symptoms of sleep apnea were treated effectively.  I switched to an oral device after 2 years and I tolerated this so much better and it reduced my symptoms effectively.  Although it was still not a perfect solution as I have spent well over $5,000 having replacements made along with the hassle and inconvenience of wearing and cleaning the device.

About 1 year ago I learned that my dental office collaborated with the Sawtooth Myofunctional Therapy Practice.  This was the first I had heard of this treatment option and I was happy to book an appointment for evaluation to see if Myofunctional Therapy could be effective for me.  The answer was yes.  For the most part, the therapy consists of exercises that I would characterize as physical therapy for the tongue, mouth and throat.  Generally this consisted of about 10 minutes for each of two or three daily sessions.  I was diligent in following the prescribed routine and met regularly with Brooke Wilkins, my therapist for monitoring and updating my routine.

Yes, this process involves some work, although it’s pretty easy and kind of fun sometimes.  I have just “graduated” from the program after about 1 year.  I had taken a sleep test prior to beginning therapy and confirmed the “severe obstructive sleep apnea AHI of 52.0” diagnosis.  My most recent sleep test following therapy shows that I have improved to the mid-range of “moderate sleep apnea AHI of 21.6!”  This is a dramatic improvement.  My Oura ring shows that my breathing regularity has improved from “pay attention” (the lowest score) and an occasional “poor”  to almost always “good” or “optimal”.  Also, my oxygen saturation scores have improved from almost always 95% to either 96% or 97%.  And this is without wearing my oral device.  Further, my before and after photos show a significant change in my tongue, throat and jawline. My tongue now is narrower and fits properly between my teeth and along the roof of my mouth.  My jawline is tighter and more defined.  I’ve almost achieved a mini-facelift through these exercises.

I can say unequivocally that this was worth every minute of the time and effort involved!  I am thrilled with my outcome and love sleeping “unaided”!  I had no idea that there was a practical, non-invasive solution to my sleep apnea, I couldn’t be happier!

Sincerely,

Brad Mathews

Before I started myofunctional therapy, I suffered with chronic headaches, incorrect swallowing pattern, poor tongue strength and control, and severe chronic pain and tension in my face, jaw, head and neck.

I started working with Brooke in January 2024 and after 8 months of therapy, I can confidently say that I now have less pain and tension in my face, head, jaw and neck. I can swallow much better and easier and my resting tongue position and posture has improved significantly.

I can also breathe better and easier through my nose and I generally feel like my body’s overall adaptability and resilience has improved because of myofunctional therapy.

Brooke always exceeds my expectations and her commitment and dedication to her profession and her patients and clients is impressive and exemplary.

She really wants people feel and look the best they can be and takes the time to explain the patterns which are causing the problems.  She develops an exercise plan that is both easy to understand and follow and empowers her patients to achieve lasting results that will have positive impacts in other areas of their lives

Brooke is professional and highly knowledgeable and experienced. Brooke is continuously improving her knowledge and expertise in the field of myofunctional therapy by regularly attending and completing new training and education courses.

I fully recommend Brooke as a myofunctional therapist for anyone who wants to improve their overall health.
